Abstract

ABSTRACT

The predominant internet technologies introduce some inconveniences to the end user such as the difficulty in search and information extraction, and the obtained information interpretation. this article presents an introduction to the knowledge portals; recent and not so popular applications have been focused in the generation, acquisition, distribution and management of knowledge to offer to the users, access possibilities and high quality interaction with portal contents. the knowledge portals purpose is to make accessible the knowledge and to allow the knowledge exchange between users, what requires the use of technologies that work with knowledge rather than with information. the use of artificial intelligence techniques; in particular the ontologies become a key element for structuring, access and efficient provision of aggregated information by different people and therefore for the construction of knowledge portals. different aspects are analyzed, the benefits that offer the ontologies for the organization and classification of content, the commitment of this type of portals with the knowledge management, and the relation with the technologies of the semantic web. finally, orgest (platform for management, structuring and reusing of organizational knowledge) architecture is proposed for the design of these portals and for enabling the development of basic knowledge management services over the portal.
