Abstract

A neogranadino reminded readers of the Correo del Orinoco (delivery 61, 1820) that of the 22 provinces in 1810 constituted the jurisdiction of the Viceroyalty of New Granada (including three of the Audience of Quito), only eleven had integrated the Congress of the United Provinces of New Granada during its short existence: Cartagena, Popayan, Antioquia, Chocó, Tunja, Neiva and Pamplona, which were the constituents; Socorro, which was integrated as separated from the domain of Cundinamarca, and those integrated by force of arms: Santa Fe, Mariquita and Los Llanos, when troops of the Congress headed by Colonel from Caracas entered to the capital. This means that despite the reunion of Cundinamarca and the Congress, half the provinces have become strongholds of the Regency Council and one of them, Panama, the new headquarters of the Viceroy and the Royal Audience. That is why this paper presents a overview of the different behavior of the 19 provinces of the Royal Audience of Santa Fe during the time of the crisis of the monarchy of the Spains, trying to draw attention to the fact that the conduct of the province of Santa Fe was not the only paradigm of what happened in the New Kingdom of Granada.
