Abstract
This article establishes the formation of parishes between the second half of the Eighteenth century and the early decades of the Nineteenth century in the region of Jujuy. Among the elements considered by this historical research are: the socioeconomic structure of the colonial frontier of the Chaco in Jujuy, the formation of parishes, the position of priests and missionaries faced with the situation of the indigenous issue and they relationship with landowners.
The sources used are inventories of landowner´s wills, court records on the parish priests of San Ignacio reduction, good governance sides of the border, and correspondence from authorities, landowners and stewards.
