Abstract

Between 1907 and 1981, was developed in an isolated setting of the town of Suaita, Santander, an ambitious project whose founders were the agro Caballero Barrera brothers, politicians and businessmen coming from the hacienda of San Jose. The best known of them is Lucas Caballero, general of the liberal armies of the Guerra de los mil dias, peace negotiator of Wisconsin, minister of hacienda of the general Reyes, among many of the major functions he held in his life.

The history of the agricultural, industrial and political interests of this business adventure is reported in several writings. What we want to tell in this article arises is how, during the first half of the twentieth century, a settlement with original characteristics in the shadow of the farm-factory in San Jose Suaita.
