Abstract
Among the anaerobic technologies available in the market, the anaerobic digestion of the Organic Fraction of Urban Solid Waste (OFUSW) appears as an alternative destined to decrease the volume of wastes deposited in the landfills, further to produce a biogas (CH4and C02) and a rich effluent in nutrients, which can be used as a biofertilizer. In this work is presented the microbiological characterization of the anaerobic mud used during the starting-up of a two phases anaerobic reactor for the anaerobic digestion of OFUSW. The inoculum was obtained from Wastewater Treatment Plant of Río Frío and piggery waste anaerobic digester. The bacterial populations were evaluated through of metabolic groups count by Most Number Probable (MNP) technique. The groups related with the oxygen sensitivity and the determination of the Specific Methanogenic Activity (SMA) using acetate, formate and ethanol as substrates.
