Abstract

An experimental study with the purpose of evaluating some processes of desacidification and trasesterification of crude oil palm is reported. The variables analyzed in the design of experiments were: amount of catalyst, ratio methanol/oil and temperature of reaction. The desacidification with diluted alkali turned out to be the best under process of transesterification with 0.6% w/w of NaOH catalyst, 12:1 molar ratio alcohol to oil and a temperature of 40º C.
