Abstract
In this work, the possible pathways for ¡nhibiting asphalt aging by several additives were studied by FTIR and NMR 'H - 13C analysis of fresh and aged asphalt-additive blends. Three pavement graded asphalts were modified each one with four different organic and ¡norganic additives Effectiveness of each additive was determined on base of retained penetration and weigh loss in blends. Changes in structural parameters obtained from FTIR and NMR spectrum (aromaticity, aromatic condensation, disustitution and ramification), indícate that additives enhance the aromatic hydrocarbon condensation, giving a decreasing in oxidation reactions, which are the major responsible in asphalt aging. These results allow establishing the guidelines for developing new asphalt additives.
