Abstract

In the scope of the project “Applied Research for Integrated Risk Management in Urban Areas” studies are done in cooperation between FUNVISIS and local universities, aimed to determine the seismic hazard in the sedimentary basins of the cities Mérida, Valencia, Maracay, Barcelona and Puerto La Cruz, as well as Valle de La Pascua. By means of geophysical and geological studies, to the moment, preliminary maps of seismic microzones, based on seismic studies and determinations of the fundamental period of soil vibration, are available. They will be used for calculating the seismic hazard on the soil surface, as soon as the seismic hazard studies at bedrock are finalized.
