Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM), and more specifically 3D printing, has started a revolution in the manufacturing industry by providing production capabilities for parts that were impossible to produce a few years ago. A recent technology, developed by Markforged, has raised these capabilities to a new level by allowing the printing of polymer matrix composites with continuous fiber reinforcement. However, as this is a new manufacturing method, there is no consolidated model to predict the mechanical characteristics or failure modes they present when subjected to loads. The present work gathers the studies on the damage and progressive failure in composite materials with long fibers produced by additive manufacturing.
