Abstract

Given the differences between physical assets and IT assets (also called digital assets), a methodology for managing digital assets obsolescence is proposed, which seeks to support decision making based on the risk of obsolescence. The aim is to identify the likelihood and impact of obsolescence on each asset in order to determine actions to be taken. As a case study, some steps of the methodology were implemented in four digital assets used in the Colombian electric power industry. The methodology can be used and adapted by any company to manage its IT assets, whether hardware of software.
