Abstract
The use of spiral tubes in heat exchangers has grown, increasing the interest of the academy in these devices, fnding that the improvement in the transfer rate is given by the formation of secondary fows within the tubes. Which have been raised a series of correlations of heat transfer, numerical or experimentally developed, that allow predicting the convection in the spiral tubes and size exchangers, becoming a critical design tool.
This article presents the main correlations that apply to that purpose. Although it has been experiencing thermal improvement, is evidence a diffculty in the fux, and increase in the pressure drop, therefore have been developed, and are also presented in this article, a series of correlations for the friction factor. At the end justifes the selection of this technology and presents the new trends.
