FROM THEATER TO FILM An approach to the cultural life of Bucaramanga

Abstract

The theaters became socialization spaces for the city of Bucaramanga in the last years of the nineteenth century. As soon as their activity started, which included the operettas and drama, they had to begin a transformation, in order to face a new show: the movies. The cinematographic exhibitions increased the spectators flow and less than two decades before, they stopped being a circus show, to become an artistic activity. By the end of the second decade of the twentieth century the cinema spaces were declining, and just as today, the spectator remained eager in front of the closed doors.
