Abstract
In this work, the experimental characterization of a Michell-Banki turbine on a laboratory scale is carried out and recommendations are presented for an adequate experimental setup that allows measuring the variables involved in energy generation and adequately characterizing the turbine. The turbine's impeller consisted of 26 blades that were symmetrically arranged between two circular plates. The designed turbine could produce up to 100 W at a water flow rate and head of 0.009 m3/s and 0.6311 m, respectively. The turbine efficiency curve was determined on a hydraulic bench using a torque sensor with encoder. The maximum turbine efficiency was 85%. This technology could be of great help in promoting activities that require electrical energy, such as those related to agriculture, food production, education, and health in areas where access to electricity is limited or non-existent.
