La Morfoestructura de la Zona de las Mesas al SW de Bucaramanga (Colombia S. A.)

RESUMEN

Se estudia un sector de la vertiente W de la cordillera Oriental de Colombia, sector situado entre el Valle del Magdalena, bloque hundido relleno por sedimentos terciarios y el macizo igneo-metamórfico de Santander. La región estudiada se caracteria por su estructura tabular rota por fallas o flexiones cuyo origen hay que buscar en fracturas profundas del zócalo; la edad de estos accidentes se remonta en los más antiguos a principios del terciario, los más modernos han seguido jugando en los tiempos cuaternarios. La morfología actual deriva de una primitiva superficie arrasada rota y desnivelada por fallas de edad moderna (fines del terciario-cuaternario). En los bloques rotos y basculados por estas fallas se instaló una red consecuente que posteriormenta sufrió notables cambios debido a fenómenos importantes de captura.

ABSTRACT

A section of the West slope at the East range of Colombia, located between the Magdalena River Valley (sunk block filed by tertiary sediments) and the igneous-metamorfic Massive of Santander is studied. The region is characterized by its tabular structure broken by faults and flexures whose origin has to be sought in deep fractures of the basement. The age of these structures goes in the oldest to the early part of tertiary, in the new ones to cuaternary age. The actual morphology comes from the primitive surface eroded, broken and unlevelled by faults of modern age (last part of tertiary-cuaternary). At the blocks broken and inclined by this faults a consequent net was set, that later suffered changes due to important capture phenomenon.
