Abstract
In the zone between the Santander Massif and the Central Cordillera there is a down-warped feature that, on developing, gave rise to the group of basement faults which in the Magdalena valley have their western walls down-thrown and in the Santander Massif, their eastern wall down-thrown. Those of the faults which are located in the central area are those which have the greater throw and have suffered the more recent movement. These faults are the features responsible for the formation of the three structural units which characterize this region: the Magdalena Valley, the Mesa Zone, and the Santander Massif.
