Focus and Scope

Revista Filosofía UIS is a biannual, open-access journal that specializes in the dissemination of unpublished and original work on philosophical topics.

Article Evaluation Process

Article proposals undergo three evaluations. The first is conducted by the Editor, assisted by the editorial assistant, to determine compliance with the minimum requirements established by the journal's institutional documents. The Editorial Committee will be informed of the results. To verify the originality of the work, the journal’s technological tools will be used. If the result is negative, the author will be notified to make the required changes, if desired. If the author does not make the changes within the given timeframe, the article will be considered rejected.

Articles approved in the first stage will proceed to academic peer review, preferably two reviewers (double-blind). As a general rule, reviewers are selected from academic databases and must have at least one publication on the subject under evaluation. Whenever possible, one national and one international reviewer will be selected. Evaluation reports will focus on scientific quality, structure, argumentation, use of bibliographic references, subject rigor, article type (as per the “Guidelines for Authors”), and compliance with copyright and ethical standards.

In case of disagreement or tie between reviewers, the Editor may resolve the issue directly or request the opinion of a member of the Editorial Committee.

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor will provide one of three responses: “rejected,” “accepted with modifications,” or “accepted without modifications.” In all cases, the author will be informed of the reviewers’ comments without revealing their identity. The Editor will set deadlines for the submission of corrected versions for a new formal and linguistic review. The Editorial Committee will also be informed of decisions taken at this stage.

Once the corrected manuscript is submitted, the author must sign the appropriate form, agreeing to its publication, ceding copyright, and confirming that the manuscript is unpublished and original.

The third evaluation will be formal and linguistic and will be conducted by the journal’s editorial team for articles approved by the Editor based on the academic reviewers’ reports.

Only texts prepared with rigor and in accordance with the “Guidelines for Authors” and “Ethical Considerations” of Revista Filosofía UIS will be considered for evaluation.

Evaluation of Editorials, Letters to the Editor, Reviews, and Translations

Unlike article evaluations, editorials, letters to the editor, reviews, and translations are evaluated directly and exclusively by the Editor or Editorial Committee.

If the Editor or Committee issues a positive concept, the manuscript must still undergo a thorough formal and linguistic review before publication.

Editorial Management Times

An estimated period of seven (7) days is considered from the receipt of the document in the OJS platform until the result of the first evaluation.

The peer review process depends directly on the reviewers’ availability. After the first evaluation is passed, the document is sent to reviewers. The maximum time between the request and a reviewer’s response is ten (10) days. If there is no response within that time, a new request is sent to another reviewer.

Once a reviewer agrees to evaluate the document, they are sent the evaluation form. The standard deadline for returning the review is two weeks. In exceptional cases, at the Editor’s discretion, an extension may be granted.

Evaluation turnaround times may vary depending on reviewer availability, since they work on a voluntary basis. Reviewers may request a 7-day extension to complete the evaluation. If more time is needed, the author(s) will be notified.

If, after three (3) months from submission, the text has not entered peer review, the author will be informed and may choose whether to continue with the editorial process.

After receiving both evaluations, the case will be discussed at the next Editorial Committee meeting. Editorial decisions will be communicated within five working days after the meeting. If changes are requested, the author will have a maximum of fifteen (15) days to respond; if more time is needed, they must request an extension, not exceeding thirty (30) days. If this period is exceeded, the article will be moved to the next issue.

After receiving the revised manuscript and the required documents (copyright transfer letter and author’s CV), the editing process begins. This stage includes a second plagiarism check using the journal’s software, formatting according to journal style, and copyediting. The duration depends on the complexity of the edits and the authors’ response time.

Once corrections are received, the digital layout of the document begins. The author will have a maximum of five (5) days to provide feedback or approve the final version. After approval, the contribution will be published in digital format.

Editorial Ethics

As an institutional journal, Revista Filosofía UIS adheres to the editorial policies approved by the Vice-rectory for Research and Outreach of the Universidad Industrial de Santander in its document Institutional Ethical Considerations for the Publication of Scientific Articles as well as its internal ethical standards.

Revista Filosofía UIS is committed to high ethical standards and takes all possible measures to prevent fraud and plagiarism. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, journal staff, Editor, Editorial Committee members, and the Universidad Industrial de Santander—are held to the same code of conduct and ethical behavior.

All authors must submit original, unpublished manuscripts and declare such characteristics when submitting their work for consideration. The journal is also committed to ensuring fair and objective peer review through a blind academic evaluation system.
