Abstract

Abstract: Thomas Hobbes´  political thought occupies a central place in the history of political ideas, on account of his political theory being the first post medieval explanation of political power. Influenced by the methodological and metaphysical perspective of the modern science, the hobbesian proposal advocates the separation of politics and religion by means of an ascendant explanation of the origin and justification of political power. This paper aims to analyze the argumentative structure of the hobbesian proposal, through three different interpretations of Hobbes´ state of nature. My goal is to shed light on this issue by a rigorous analysis of several arguments, offered by a group of renowned scholars, about the origin of the conflict in the state of nature.
