Abstract
The term “Dysphagia lusoria” is applied to symptoms that arise due to vascular compression of the esophagus, resulting from the abnormal location of an aberrant right subclavian artery. This is a rare congenital malformation that could occasionally cause a complete or incomplete obstruction of the esophagus, constituting an esophageal ring. The diagnostic challenge is related to the lack of an obvious etiology, associated with the persistence and worsening of symptoms, including progressive dysphagia. The objective of this article is to present a clinical case and review of the literature addressing the case of a pediatric patient with progressive dysphagia and failure to gain weight, who presented an incomplete vascular ring due to an aberrant right subclavian artery. It is important to carry out an appropriate clinical history and use diagnostic aids to determine the origin of the symptoms, as each case requires management according to the clinical presentation.
