Abstract

Introduction: thrombophilia are a group of blood disorders, acquired or hereditary, characterized by a predisposition to the formation of venous or arterial thrombi. In clinical practice, variability exists in the criteria for the selection of patients to study or the laboratory work up for thrombophilia in arterial thrombosis. Objective: describe and determine the variability in Colombian medical specialists in the criteria for the evaluation of thrombophilias in adult patients with arterial thrombosis. Methods: between September 2021 and January 2022, through an on-line survey to medical specialists in Colombia, caring for patients with arterial thrombosis, criteria for patient selection and laboratory work up for the study of thrombophilia in arterial thrombosis were surveyed. The physicians surveyed were selected by convenience and were contacted in person or via email. Results: in 102 surveys, 48 % neurologists, 44 patterns for patient selection criteria for the study of thrombophilias in arterial thrombosis were observed (42,57 % variability index). The two more common patterns included family history, recurrent arterial thrombosis, age 50 %) for the study of thrombophilia in arterial thrombosis patients were anticardiolipin antibodies (95,1 %), lupus anticoagulant (95,1 %). Conclusion: among Colombian medical specialists caring for adult patients with arterial thrombosis there is variability for the selection criteria and laboratory work up for the study of thrombophilias.
