History of Salud UIS
The journal Salud UIS was first published in June 1969 under the name Revista de la Universidad Industrial de Santander. Medicina, associated with the newly created Faculty of Health and School of Medicine, as a key component of its academic and scientific project. The first editor was Dr. David González. Initially, the journal had an annual publication frequency until 1984, when it became biannual in response to the increasing research output from faculty and students of the School of Medicine, who were its main contributors.
In 1988, the journal was renamed Revista de la Universidad Industrial de Santander. Salud, thus broadening its scope to include professionals from various health disciplines (physiotherapists, bacteriologists, nurses, physicians, nutritionists, dentists, veterinarians, health administrators, psychologists, among others). In 2000, the digital version was launched under the name Salud UIS, with the e-ISSN 2145-8464. In 2005, its publication frequency changed to triannual (every four months).
From 2014 to 2024, the editor was Dr. Álvaro Javier Idrovo, who led the journal’s response to changes in the Publindex-Colciencias classification system. Under his direction, Salud UIS incorporated into its editorial policies the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding best practices in publication ethics. During this time, the journal began publishing editorials on current issues and expanded its international visibility through inclusion in various specialized indexes and bibliographic databases.
Since 2025, the editor is Dr. Paula Camila Ramírez Muñoz, who takes on the challenge of maintaining and further enhancing the journal's visibility and publication quality in collaboration with the editorial board.
Salud UIS remains the only scientific journal in northeastern Colombia with a broad focus on clinical, community, and public health issues. It also serves as an editorial forum for the discussion of relevant national and international events that impact health conditions. The journal publishes original and unpublished articles in health and related sciences in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
