Abstract
Extragonadal presentation of germ cell tumors represent 5 to 7 % of this type, mainly in young men. Due to its low incidence
globally, it represents a diagnostic challenge in clinical practice. We present the case of a young adult male patient with no
associated history, who consulted to a level III institution, due to exacerbation of symptoms of four months of evolution
characterized by chest pain, syndrome of superior vena cava, cervical adenopathies and constitutional syndrome. Imaging
identified a mediastinal mass that was subjected to histopathological studies for samples obtained in thoracotomy,
allowing the diagnosis of mediastinal seminoma and eventually treatment with chemoradiotherapy to be initiated. The
importance of interdisciplinary work at hospital leves is emphasized , linking paraclinical, radiological and histopathological
aids, to adequately identify this type of neoplasm as it presents a diagnostic challenge.
