Abstract

the corporal scheme is the abstract representation that people perceive of their body in the space, derived from sensorial stimuli putting it with an ample proprioceptive participation. Besides, it’s modified as the athlete receives somatosensory and social stimuli to perfect the sports gesture. Objective: this document is part of the theoretical framework of the study “Body image in soccer players”, and aims to describe the influence of body schema on sports performance and how sports influence in structuring. Materials and methods: bibliographic search in the databases Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Proquest, Ovid and PEDro of publications registered in the period 1998-2014. A total of 120 articles were obtained, of which 48 were selected. Conclusions: all motor learning processes are represented at the brain level, in what is defined as a body schema, which provides the possibility to modify continuously according to the stimuli received by the athlete, in order to perfect the sport performance.
