Abstract

Introduction: It has been shown that nursing students learn their professional role and acquire interpersonal skills, not only in the interaction with patients, but also with professors during practice. Objective: To describe the perception of nursing professors regarding their interpersonal competence during practice with undergraduate students. Methods: A qualitative study of semi-structured interviews was carried out with 11 internship professors from a university in Medellín, Colombia, a thematic analysis method was used to interpret the information collected. Results: The findings showed five categories: understanding the vulnerability of the other, favoring assertive communication with the student, reconciling decision-making, favoring reflection and generating confidence in the student. Conclusions: The findings of this study show the importance of the professor's role and their part in the construction of interpersonal competence during the nursing student's practice.
