Abstract

Introduction: Knee replacement surgery generates states of anxiety, fear and concern in patients. Likewise, adaptive behaviors before and after the surgical intervention that limit their coping capacity and self-efficacy, affecting their post-surgical recovery. It is important to strengthen self-efficacy through preoperative education with the support of the interdisciplinary group. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a nursing intervention on self-efficacy in patients scheduled for knee joint replacement surgery. Methodology:Randomized controlled clinical trial. In a sample of 75 patients scheduled for knee joint replacement surgery, randomly assigned to a control and experimental group. The experimental group received an interdisciplinary educational intervention to strengthen self-efficacy in the postoperative period. This intervention consisted of 10 face-to-face sessions of 30 minutes for 6 months and the control group received the information offered in the preoperative consultation. Subsequently, the general self-efficacy scale was applied in the preoperative and postoperative periods in both groups. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in self-efficacy with the educational intervention compared to the control group with a value of p (0.002). Conclusion: Nursing intervention has a significant effect on self-efficacy in people with knee joint replacement surgery, based on preoperative education and interdisciplinary support, facilitating their post-surgical recovery process.
